The fruit-bowl crumble: prepared recipe serving suggestion

Let’s make something good.

  1. Heat the oven to 375°F / 190°C. Toss the apples and berries with 2 tbsp sugar, cornstarch, ½ tsp cinnamon and water in a 20 cm / 8-inch square baking dish.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, ⅓ cup sugar, remaining cinnamon and salt. Rub in the cold butter with your fingertips until the mixture forms uneven crumbs.
  3. Scatter the topping over the fruit without pressing it flat. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until golden and the filling is bubbling at the edges; a knife should slide easily through the apples.
  4. Let stand for 10 minutes before spooning into bowls. Serve on its own or with yogurt.

Use what you have.

Use pears in place of half the apples. Frozen berries can go in without thawing; bake until the filling bubbles, allowing a few extra minutes.
